Internal Wall InsulationIt appears this is likely to be due to there being an additional air cavity built into the rear and front walls, whereas the side wall relies for insulation just on the styrene foam within the wall itself. Con Romer (2617) came up with the idea of lining the side walls adjacent to the bed with carpet. Ken and Lyn Greenwood (2564) decided to run with the idea in their Cruiser 5 layout A'van, and we are indebted to Ken for providing us with the following photographs and construction detail. Carpet lined side and rear wall adjacent to the bed The carpet chosen was Velvet Touch Marine Carpet from Clark Rubber. To the best of Ken's recollections it comes in a 1.8 metre width. Two metres was more than sufficient to line the walls alongside and the end of each of the two beds. Approximate cost was $35 per metre, and it is available in various colours. Ken and Lyn chose fawn for their Cruiser. The carpet, cut into pieces to fit the areas to be lined, is bonded to 3mm thick plywood sheet using "Liquid Nails" building adhesive. Lengths of "J" section aluminium extrusion moulding (Bunnings at $14 per 3 metre length) are fixed to the A'van walls where required with countersunk screws, and the top of the carpet/plywood assembly slips snugly up under the "J" as can be seen in the photographs. The bottom of the carpet is fixed to the walls as shown, there being 5 screws on the long sides.
