Keeping Cool in an A'vanPeter and Marie Stephens were determined to keep their cool when visiting the Tamworth Country Music Festival during January. Renowned for high temperatures at that time of the year (day temperatures in the 40s and 35 degrees C at 9:00 pm!), Peter set about heat proofing' their Aliner before leaving home. First a blind was constructed and fitted over the kitchen window, effectively providing shade over those windows and just as importantly over the back of the fridge vents. Next, two 9 cm 12V fans were fitted, one across the inside of the bottom fridge vent and the other across the inside of the top fridge vent. The bottom fan draws the outside air into the void behind the fridge and the top one extracts the heated air out. With this combination, the fridge worked flawlessly. ... and there is more!
Spurred on by the effectiveness of the above innovations, and not one to just
'sit on his laurels', Peter has done it
again - this time coming up with a matching and magnificently constructed blind
system over the rear roof dome window:
The ease of assembly and dismantling belies the intricacy of the construction
which involved the fabrication of stainless steel
components and welding of aluminium
(definitely not for the faint hearted!). When dismantled, all
components of the blind system are carried in a PVC pipe mounted across the front
of the A'van just behind the gas bottles. For further detail contact
Peter (A'van owners are always only too
pleased to demonstrate and talk about their modifications and tweaks!).
