Cushion Retainers & Improved Wheel Locker Access
The "tongues" can be stitched to the cushion cover sides, but we have attached each
one using a couple of small nylon cable
clips. These can be inserted through the weave of the cushion
without cutting through the fabric and can be removed for washing or re-locating
to even up wear.
Access to the wheel arch locker on the right just inside the door of the CL layout Sportliner involves removing the cushion and plywood cover. These have to be put somewhere while you ferret around for whatever is needed from the locker. By hinging the plywood cover as shown in the photographs (table lowered for clarity) and attaching a metal handle, the seat cushion will fold up against the seat back and stays there while we retrieve whatever is needed. To close, flip the plywood cover down and slide the cushion seat back under the (Velcro® clip retained) back cushion. The grey duct tape over the hinge is to stop the cushion fabric from "catching up" on the hinge and screws.
For optimum strength (we sit and sleep on this!), we have used a full length
piano hinge. The hinged portion
is not made the full width of the plywood cover, just sufficient to adequately
access the locker. Without the cushions, the plywood cover can be taken
off just as before.
