Awning Stowage
The existing hinged flap was first removed and the holes plugged with small stainless
self tapping screws. The "inner" end of the pipe was sealed by cementing on a 90 mm stormwater plain end cap.
On the outer end we cemented a 90mm stormwater screw endcap fitting. From
just inside the pipe, four self tapping screws (15mm long, 4mm dia, pan head) were
screwed through the pipe diagonally opposite each other into the triangular gap
formed between the round pipe and the square bumper. These gaps were then
filled with a two-part building filler,
which once it hardened, locked the pipe inside the bumper via the four screws.
The exposed filler was painted the same colour as the bumper.
In the (now dry) bumper, inside a
calico bag we carry the awning (poles, fixings and canvas), all of which slip in
and out easily and do not rattle around
when travelling.
