Car Radio with Remote ON/OFFThere are not many suitable spots for fitting a car radio in a Sportliner. We fitted ours on the side of the wheel arch locker, just inside the door, with one speaker on the side as shown and the other facing in, under the table. Lining the locker with carpet resulted in a surprisingly pleasant speaker response. The only problem with this arrangement is when the alarm goes off in the morning, and we want to listen to the news before getting up. One of us has to extricate ourselves from the sleeping bag to turn the radio on. Modern car radios do not automatically come on when power is connected. Power needs to be present and the on/off switch operated. So having a remote switch on the power feed to the radio is not the answer.
What does work however, is to have 12V permanently
connected to the radio (as in a car) but provide a separate remotely switched 12V input to the terminal normally
connected to the accessory position of the car ignition switch. Provided
the remote switch is conveniently located for operating whilst in the sleeping
bag, ensure the radio is ON (and tuned to the required station) before jumping
into the bag. The radio can then be turned off when we want to go to
sleep and on again in the morning. Car radio mounted on wheel-arch locker wall with remote ON/OFF switch
We have a removable telescopic car radio aerial fitted on the top of the rear light housing. This is cabled internally
through existing holes into the rear locker and thence to the radio. We
remove the aerial when travelling, putting a plastic cap over the connector to
keep it weatherproof. Radio aerial mounted off rear light housing Last update 24th July 2024 Website URL "actavanning.org/index.html" Top of page |
