Over Sink Lighting & StorageEarlier Aliners were not particularly well endowed with storage space and work bench area. Many of the layouts were supplied with a wall mounted shelf over the sink area, which did provide some additional space for the inevitable collection of "stuff" surrounding the kitchen. Current A'vans have a lot more bench area, particularly those having the kitchen up the front such as the 4A, 5 and CL layouts. Consequently, many of these A'vans no longer have the shelf over the sink. A'vanners, upgrading from earlier A'vans, have been known to miss their shelf, and Ken & and Lyn Greenwood (2564) have done something about this retrograde step! We are indebted to Ken for providing us with the following photographs, and a summary of the construction detail. Shelf over sink area showing additional light, hooks and wine glass holder The timber shelf, shaped as shown is screwed to the side wall through holes in angle aluminium extrusion (just visible on the rear top right hand side). It is mounted well clear of where the side rests on the cupboard, just inside the door when the A'van is closed up for travelling. On the underside of the shelf, Ken has fitted a small 12V halogen light fitting (from Ikea), a switch, various large cup hooks, and an ingenious wine glass holder ($15 from Howard Storage). The halogen light is powered from the A'van 12V battery system. Keeping the wiring neat involved some surface conduit and some routing of the wire through the styrene foam wall insulation... a technique perfected over the years by seasoned A'vanners! Wine glass in holder (no more broken glasses in this A'van for sure!) Last update 24th July 2024 Website URL "actavanning.org/index.html" Top of page |
